As a storyteller the only way to have an impact with your film or TV pilot is to make it, which is an expensive and taxing process - even if you’re working with a studio - that doesn’t always pay off... What if you had a quick and easy way to get a story out to an audience, using that exposure to experiment with storylines and characters while figuring out the tone of the show and building a fan base for your eventual film or TV series? If this sounds appealing to you, it’s time to consider creating a podcast.
We’re in the renaissance of audio where podcasts are a Hollywood goldmine rivaling books as intellectual property. Podcasts are where the industry is now turning to find unique, original content and new voices. It’s time for you and your story to be heard!
Podcasting is a new frontier so it’s hard to know where to start, what podcast platforms to pitch to, how to tell the story you’ve imagined visually through audio and after it’s produced as a podcast, how to use that audio to pitch a film or TV series. Many creatives don’t know the power of audio and how to use the intimacy and soundscape it allows to inform a story. It’s a powerful medium, but it’s also an emerging IP platform, so there are many unknowns and numerous ways to navigate the market.
Caroline Slaughter has made her way in the podcast space. Most recently, her iHeartRadio podcast ASTRAY debuted in the top 15 podcasts nationally and is being developed into a TV show in collaboration with the production company, School of Humans. She is also executive producing the podcast TOM SLICK: MYSTERY HUNTER with ANDY SAMBERG and screenwriter JEB STUART (Die Hard, Vikings: Valhalla) attached, which will launch in Spring 2022. On top of this, her next non-fiction investigative podcast in collaboration with Trailblazer Studios and Reuters News, BODY TRADE, exposes a shadow industry every American will either fall victim to or benefit from in their life... or death. Through her experience working as a voiceover actor with brands like Holiday Inn, Subway, IBM and Facebook, Caroline has insight on the power of the voice and how to use it. Additionally, in 2018, Caroline’s award-winning short film LAMB was used as a vehicle to support the #MeToo Movement.
