Science fiction (sci-fi) has come a long way in the last few decades. Since the days of the original Star Wars, the genre has expanded in scope and has even seen the emergence of sub genres within the sci-fi umbrella. Recent series like HBO’s THE LAST OF US and Netflix’s BLACK MIRROR have become cornerstones in the horror subgenre of sci-fi, whereas Amazon’s THE PERIPHERAL and Disney’s THE MANDALORIAN are recent hits in the drama and action subgenres, respectively. These shows are not only widely popular with audiences and critics but are making studios and production companies a ton of money!

With today’s proliferation of sci-fi, now is the best time to write your sci-fi TV pilot. However, creating a successful sci-fi script, ripe with rich world building, is no easy feat. What are the fundamental aspects of the genre that you should focus on when writing your script? How can you best create a fresh sci-fi story with nuanced characters? What elements can you incorporate in your pilot script to best reach a global audience?

Throughout this Stage 32 eight-week interactive lab, you will work directly with Carlos Aguirre, former development and production executive for Paramount Television Studios, to develop and write your sci-fi TV pilot. You will gain a better understanding of how to present your fully realized story and how to best position your pilot in today’s sci-fi marketplace. If you’re writing a pilot in the sci-fi genre, then this lab is a must!

In this lab, you’ll actually write your sci-fi pilot script with an emphasis on world building, creating strong characters, and writing for a global audience to best positioning your script in the marketplace with commercial viability.

Carlos is only accepting a small group of writers for this lab. You’ll have three one-on-one sessions with Carlos and weekly assignments to guarantee that you’re always progressing with your screenplay while being vetted by a professional development executive. You'll also have direct access to Carlos via email for the duration of the lab.
