Anyone who wants to make a movie should know something about film budgeting. Understanding how much a film will cost to make, and being able to prepare a realistic budget is the first building block of transforming your script into a brilliant film.  It doesn’t matter whether you’re making a self-financed microbudget feature or a multi-million-dollar indie looking for financiers, knowing realistic costs before production begins is key to getting your film finished.

In this exclusive Stage 32 8-part lab, you will begin with a formal script breakdown, which will flag potential big-ticket items. You will then use that vital information to inform your decisions to create a budget tailored to your script; from hiring cast and crew to getting the film distributed. You will learn how to budget for both above and below the line crews, based on current SAG/AFTRA and IATSE rules. You will also learn the art of Film Scheduling and all that goes into getting your project locked into a production calendar. There are many factors that you would never think of when scheduling a film that you only learn from experience or quality instruction, which is why we brought in such a stellar educator.

Your instructor is Producer and Filmmaker Julie Beck. She has produced films that have played at Sundance, Tribeca, South by Southwest, and the London Film Festival to name just a few. Ms. Beck has budgeted and scheduled 100s of independent films. She has experience working on films from early development, all the way to playing at major festivals.
