Getting a film financed almost always comes down to one thing: equity. You can have a great script, strong attachments, and real momentum, but without equity investment, your project can’t leave the starting line. And for most filmmakers, finding and securing that equity is the single hardest part of getting a project off the ground. Investors are cautious, selective, and inundated with pitches - which means how you approach them matters just as much as what you’re pitching.
Where you may get stuck is not understanding how financiers actually think. Too often, pitches are driven purely by passion instead of preparation, or emails are sent without a clear goal, strategy, or understanding of what investors are evaluating. You may not know how to cold query investors, what should (and shouldn’t) be in a first email, how to frame your project’s metrics, or how to confidently move from an introduction to a real conversation. Without a framework, even strong projects can get passed over after a single glance.
That’s where your Stage 32 Educator, Lorelle Lynch, comes in. Lorelle is a development and production executive with credits that include the critically acclaimed WOMAN OF THE HOUR (Netflix) and the upcoming Amazon feature DRIVERS ED. With almost a decade of experience across film, television, and digital media - and a background working with companies like AGC Studios, Range Media Partners, Vox Media, and Cox Media Group - Lorelle lives at the intersection of creative storytelling and business strategy. She understands exactly how projects are evaluated, packaged, and positioned for serious financial consideration.
In this exclusive 2-part Stage 32 class you’ll break down how to approach both cold and known investors, how to craft an email that gets opened and taken seriously, and what financiers look for when assessing genre, budget, cast, audience, and ROI. You’ll learn how to clearly state your goal, present the right materials, run a strong phone or Zoom call, and confidently explain your finance and distribution plan. You’ll walk away with real-world examples, practical handouts, and assignments that help you draft your own query letter and practice a concise, compelling pitch—so when you get your shot, you’re ready to turn interest into a real “yes.”
This interactive Stage 32 class is held on Zoom and goes substantially more in depth than a Stage 32 webinar. Best of all? As soon as you sign up you will be linked on email with your Stage 32 Educator and given a questionnaire to fill out and send back to them. You will have access to your Educator for the duration of your class by email to ask them any questions you have about your craft or career - it’s like having a mentor on demand!
And, if you can't make a live session, don't worry! All class recordings will be available 48 hours after each session and you will be able to view them in your Library on your Stage 32 profile. Finally, you can expand your network with like-minded creatives - you'll have a dedicated lounge for interactive support and discussions with your fellow classmates!
