One of the most important skills you will need as a line producer is understanding how a production schedule is created and how a motion picture schedule works to keep a production on time and running smoothly. This certification module will explain the various iterations of schedule documents used during production including a one-line schedule, a shooting schedule, and the various day out of days (dood) documents that help track elements required for a production. This certification module will also discuss theoretical things that always impact schedules, as well as examples of events that can disrupt the schedule.

This course will help you understand how to create a pre-production calendar and a production schedule. It is vital to anyone interested in line producing or seeking an understanding of motion picture and television schedules. 

The course will cover:

  • An Overview of Production Scheduling
    • Where elements from a script belong on a schedule and why
    • How to read the various schedule documents
  • Starting with Script
    • How to read a script
      • Reading to create lists of questions
      • Taking notes for the shooting schedule from various meetings
    • How to determine which department can best answer your questions
  • Working with the Team
    • Working with the director, d.p.and assistant director
    • Understanding when your schedule needs additional staff for the departments and why.
  • Creating a pre-production calendar
  • Creating the schedule
    • An overview of elements
    • How the elements affect production
  • The different department meetings and what you need to know

After viewing the certification module, there is a test to challenge your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. You’ll walk away from this session with an overview and understanding of production schedules, how they are made, and how they are utilized during production.
