The ever-evolving market is finding more and more ways to get movies into production and sold. From finding material, acquiring scripts and projects, attaching talent, getting pre-sales to convert into actual money for your film and getting tax rebates. Getting a movie off the ground is a multi-layered, intricate, complex job.
Stage 32 is excited to bring you a webinar taught by Theresa Won, a producer and former Director of Production and Acquisitions of Myriad Pictures.Theresa is an LA-based producer and consultant with a background in film and TV finance, development, production, and distribution. Her credits include Shirley MacLaine and Amanda Seyfried-starred, THE LAST WORD, which made its worldwide premiere at Sundance 2017, and THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY, an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival (Un Certain Regard) along with a number of other commercial and prestige films.
A sales agent and distributor’s job is to find attractive material and presell it domestically and internationally. This presale basically is a territory (i.e. France, Italy, Japan) telling the sales agent that that project will attract X amount of dollars at the box office. A producer can then use a promissory note from that territory and use that towards the budget of the film. The webinar will expand on this and explain the transition from note to actual capital.
