Learn how managers and agents decide which writers feel “signable”
Get sample queries and pitch decks you can use to strengthen your own submissions
Getting signed is one of the biggest turning points in a writer’s career, because the right representation doesn’t just open doors, it helps shape which doors you should be walking through in the first place. If you want your work to move beyond “almost there” and into real industry conversations, you need to understand how managers and agents actually decide who feels worth betting on. This isn’t about chasing trends or guessing what reps want, it’s about knowing how you’re being evaluated and why some writers feel like an inevitable choice while others, even talented ones, get passed over.
A lot of creatives assume that strong writing alone should be enough, but reps aren’t looking for “good writers,” they’re looking for writers with a clear creative identity, strong ideas, and material they can confidently sell. Many writers struggle because their goals aren’t aligned with the right type of representation, their samples don’t clearly communicate what they do best, or their outreach doesn’t signal readiness and professionalism. You’ll explore how reps assess voice, repeatability, market fit, and career potential, why clarity often beats range, and how misalignment between your material and your goals can quietly stall your momentum.
Your instructor, Tamer Ahsan, brings over 15 years of experience from the agency and management side of the business and is currently a literary manager at Zero Gravity Management, as announced on Deadline. He began his career in the APA mailroom, rose through the ranks, and went on to work at Pakula/King & Associates and most recently as VP of Talent at CESD Talent Agency. Tamer has been involved with projects across film and television, including Shadow Unit, Test Room 9, Gray Hat, and multiple holiday features, giving him firsthand insight into how writers are evaluated, packaged, and positioned for long-term careers.
In this webinar, you’ll learn what reps really look for, why good writing is not enough, and how they actually read and assess your scripts, loglines, and overall body of work. You’ll break down what makes a writer feel signable, how ideas lead the process, how to align your goals with the right reps, and how to present materials that create confidence instead of confusion, with examples and downloadable sample query letters and pitch materials. You’ll also learn how to query effectively, avoid common outreach mistakes, and understand how reputation and relationships factor into the process. By the end, you’ll walk away knowing how to position yourself, your writing, and your career so that when reps lean in, they have a clear reason to say yes.

Testimonials from attendees:
"I've taken several Stage 32 webinars and this was among the most helpful. All the examples of failed and successful query letters, the strengths and weaknesses of pitch decks, the differences between literary agents and managers... This was not just nice-to-know but need-to-know and actionable, at least given the place I'm in in my career. I'm so grateful to Mr. Ahsan." – Amy
"Tamer is excellent, one of the best presentations from a manager I've heard; personable, practical and cuts to the essence." – Katsbca
"Everything was great and I learned a lot." – Anthony
"I truly appreciated Tamer’s candor." – Linda
"Tamer was honest 'We're not creative,' smart (his reply on 'can't get to an agent with an IP'), and human, 'No email finds us well...'" – Changes
"He gave very clear guidance on how to interact with agents/managers like him, and I found the session quite useful." – Ludovisi
