The much overlooked part of the film process that most of the crew arrive too late to see is how the location was selected. A good location is not only a great backdrop of what is happening in the scenes shot there, but is also logistically practical and safe to film in.

Weather, noise and challenging access can all slow you down so you most not be lured in by a location just because it is dramatic and cool. Filming on location is not like filming on a backlot that you rent and control. You have to imagine a 50+ person crew being there and all the repercussions of that. It is also key to remember that first and foremost, you are a guest and are impacting the lives of those living in and around your location.
