As a director, your ability to inspire actors is the key to creating unforgettable performances that audiences will love. If you’re ready to elevate your skills and transform your directing game, this exclusive 4-part course you will learn how to work with actors all the way from the audition process to post-production. You’ll gain valuable insights on everything from reading scripts to understand roles, collaborating with casting directors, evaluating self-tapes, and giving impactful notes during auditions. By mastering these skills, you'll empower your actors to truly shine, elevating their performances and transforming your project into a success!

Many directors struggle with how to communicate effectively with their actors. They often focus too much on complicated ideas that are hard to understand. Some get lost in technical jargon or over-explain, leaving actors confused and disconnected. This new exclusive 4-part course will help you navigate these challenges with ease. You’ll learn how to break down character roles during the casting and audition process, meet and prep with actors, and create detailed scene breakdowns and shot lists. Each session will walk you through crucial steps, including how to block scenes, give positive feedback, and handle post-production tasks like ADR and editing while keeping great relationships with your actors.

Your Stage 32 educator Todd Slavkin, a highly experienced showrunner and producer with over 30 years in television. He has worked on iconic shows like SMALLVILLE and SHADOWHUNTERS, and his most recent project, THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY, received multiple Emmy nominations. Todd knows the ins and outs of the industry, having developed pilots for major networks like ABC, NBC, and FOX. His real-world experience and practical advice will give you the confidence and knowledge to excel in your directing career!

Over four comprehensive sessions, you’ll explore every stage of working with actors: from the audition process, where you’ll learn to evaluate self-tapes and give effective feedback, to pre-production, where you’ll gain insights into actor strengths during rehearsals and table reads. You’ll also dive into production techniques for blocking scenes and maintaining positive energy on set. Finally, you’ll discover how to keep the momentum going in post-production with effective communication and editing strategies. By the end of this course, you'll walk away with a toolkit of skills that will empower you to help every actor deliver their best performance, ensuring your projects resonate with audiences and stand out as a success in the industry!

This interactive Stage 32 class is held on Zoom and goes substantially more in depth than a Stage 32 webinar. Best of all? You will have access to your Educator for the duration of your class by email to ask them any questions you have about your craft or career - it’s like having a mentor on demand! And, if you can't make a live session, don't worry! All class recordings will be available 48 hours after each session and you will be able to view them in your Library on your Stage 32 profile. Finally, you can expand your network with like-minded creatives - you'll have a dedicated lounge for interactive support and discussions with your fellow classmates!

Plus! You'll receive:

  • A casting breakdown and sample sides
  • A sample prep memo and sample concept art
  • Call sheet
