- Each class includes tools to assist a producer to endure & thrive in the marathon that is conceiving, producing and delivering a feature film(s) as a career, including strategies on economic & personal health to last the long haul.
- Each class includes insights into the roles of creative & business executives with whom a producer must collaborate at each stage, including direction for students who may chose a career within the management of the producing process vs. being a producer.
January 31 – 1st Class
60 Minutes with Kip! Fun, energetic overview of creative & business as well as life skills to survive & thrive in LA.
February 28 – 2nd Online Class Released
Development process for a feature film detailing key events & terms of both an original and acquired literary property’s growth from idea to reality. IP (register, acquire, etc.), legal, budget/accounting, agent/managers/talent, development (coverage, notes, narrative structure, recommended reading/viewing, etc.), careers in development.
March 30 – 3rd Online Class Released
Advance the creative development process into financial development, i.e. packaging creative & financial assets into financeable model. Confirm creative execution via OTX/Research company. Understanding essential tools to confirm your funding (i.e. debt, equity, soft money, tax rebate/incentive, international/domestic sales, bridge/gap/mezzanine lending, etc.), how to entice equity to commit to your movie.
April 30 – 4th Online Class Released
Confirming the bond (or equity) and cash flow into pre production (i.e. local or distant, stage or practical, pre production until Day 1 of principle (i.e. countless responsibilities of the producer during prep to anticipate a smooth production).
May 31 - 5th Online Class Released
The pre-production responsibilities of a creative producer and/or physical producer (i.e. script breakdown for production, budget, schedule, location/stage, hiring of cast & crew, unions, clearances, SFX, etc.)
June 30 – 6th Online Class Released
Movie Magic Budget & schedule details, location scouting/confirmations, cast & crew logistics of firing/adjustments, on set protocol including standard pitfalls, bond company and/or financier management and being a contributor to on set dynamics.
July 31 – 7th Online Class Released
The producer’s wrap and transition to post, post vendor deals/deposits, union & location/vendor deposits/retrieval, post producer/supervisor & coordinators, post accounting, post calendar & responsibilities, managing the end of the budget.
August 31 – 8th Online Class Released
Editing (notes, schedule, DGA/Non, director & financier vision etc.), Delivery Schedule & Requirements to distributor(s), preparation of marketing campaign and picture elements, talent during post (i.e. ADR, marketing, etc.).
September 30 – 9th Online Class Released
Marketing the IP across all available markets, worldwide – including creation of marketing plan, budget & responsibilities. Legal transition to Delivery/marketing (i.e. music, rights, rating, etc.), revisit OTX/Audience results & process for final editing before lock picture.
October 31 – 10th Online Class Released
Distribution resources (i.e. studio and indie examples across multiple primary release windows including theatrical, SVOD/AVOD, television), ancillary releases, etc.). Schedule of release, strategic application of the marketing budget, collections and accounting, etc.) Acquiring Prints & Ad funding to apply alongside non-monetary marketing advantages to reach a core audience. The role of the sales agent/producer representative as well as executives within the distribution process (i.e. publicity, sales, ancillary markets, sub distributors/international, etc.).
November 30 – 11th Online Class Released
Distribution waterfall in detail including CAMA breakdown, Fintage/Freeway companies’ collection accounting & distribution, unions/guilds, new media releases & the “new box” of distribution. Psycho graphic vs. demographics of contemporary marketing, the internet & its niche/crossover potential, etc.
December 31 – 12th Online Class Released
Review highlights and areas of course where students request specific attention; customize & ensure students’ clear understanding of how to proceed following conclusion of class.
